"A self-taught artist working initially in watercolours on small studies, I have progressed to using a wider range of media and subjects, creating some larger statement pieces using oils. Through an extensive learning experience following and studying the work and techniques of Michael James Smith my portfolio has expanded, encompassing subjects from still life to landscapes and waterscapes, whilst still enjoying portraiture of animals and pets.
Painting through sheer enjoyment, with the will and determination to tackle any new challenge, I paint instinctively now. I love to seek out beautiful images, from which I can create photorealistic paintings.
I would say my own personal style is emerging and my paintings reflect this, in delicate and detailed work, whilst retaining a painterly element. I select images that take me away from the here and now. Views over a landscape, a mediaeval French town, or the wide vistas of Australia, often these are memories from places I have visited. In my animal paintings also, my inspiration is in recognition of nature’s wonder and perfection, infinite depth and range of colour, tone and texture, magnificent power and strength of the horse for example, while remaining delicate and soft and graceful."
